The traveling exhibition entitled "Pastels by Howard Cook" was initiated by Donald Bear (Santa Barbara Museum of Art) and Ninfa Valvo (de Young Museum, San Francisco).

It is in the original frame made by the artist. The original grayboard mat was replaced with a museum-quality, acid-free mat.

Wall Street #2 is looking east, likely from Broadway; the tall building in the image is 40 Wall Street, completed in 1930, designed by H. Craig Severance and Yasuo Matsui. A competition between the Chrysler Building and 40 Wall Street spurred both buildings to soar in height, as they both sought the title of the tallest building. 40 Wall topped out first and was crowned the tallest building in the world; however, the stainless-steel crown of the Chrysler Building had not yet been installed, and when it was, the Chrysler Building became the tallest structure in the world, surpassing the Eiffel Tower. 40 Wall was struck by a C-45 Beechcraft on May 1946, killing all five on the plane and damaging the building. This incident happened less than a year after a B-25 crashed into the Empire State Building. The building was landmarked in 1995 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
