  • DESCRIPTION: An interesting map of North America, published shortly after the American Revolution. The various American states are shown extending to the Mississippi River following the Mitchell map. In the west, Point Sir Francis Drake is shown, a reference to Drake's Bay, pre-dating the appearance of San Francisco on a printed map. A vast section of western Canada is simply titled, Parts Unknown. The Sandwich Islands (Hawaii) are identified as “O why-hee”. The mapping of the Northwest Coast of America and Alaska post-dates James Cook, but pre-dates Vancouver.
