New Best Fifty #15.<br><br> One of the great American Clipper Ship images. <br><br> The Red Jacket was built by George Thomas in Rockland, Maine, and launched on November 2nd, 1853. Her first trip was to Liverpool, leaving New York on January 11th, 1854, and arriving in Liverpool in 13 days, 1 hour and 25 minutes. She was later charted by the White Star Line and made several trips to Australia. The trip in this image shows her homeward bound off of Cape Horn surrounded by fields of sea ice and icebergs, some of which were recorded as two miles in circumference and 200 feet high.<br><br>
