DESCRIPTION: Three volumes. 15 engraved and hand colored maps and plates, including 2 large maps, 2 folding plates of Niagtara Falls, and more. Sabin 17501: "The author spent nearly a quarter of a century in America, saw Washington in 1774 come to the first Congress fresh from the farm, witnessed his extraordinary career, and in 1797 saw him retire. His experience, therefore, enables him to give much information and personal gossip not readily found elsewhere." Original bindings. Spine on volume 3 splitting off. This set is very unusual in that all the plates and maps have been hand colored. While I cannot say that the coloring is original, it is very much period, it is likely that the original owner had the work colored. Beautifully done.
ADDITIONAL INFO: An unusual example as it has period hand coloring.
CONDITION: Original bindings. Spine on volume 3 splitting off.
