A man of remarkable intellect and versatility, Franklin was a scientist, writer, printer, and publisher, as well as one of the nation’s most effective diplomats. During the Revolutionary War he served as American Minister to France, securing crucial French support for the cause of independence. He remains the only individual to have signed all four of the foundational documents of the United States: the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty of Alliance with France, the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain, and the Constitution.
