  • DESCRIPTION: This map is considered to be the prototype for all published maps of the Chesapeake Bay region, used extensively in the running of the Mason and Dixon line between Maryland and Pennsylvania. Herrman, a surveyor and draughtsman by profession, completed the map in about ten years and was rewarded with an immense tract of many thousands of acres principally in Cecil County, Maryland. Engraved by John Seller. Printed by the Meridan Gravure company from the original at the John Catrer Brown Library.<br><br> Original examples of this important map are incredibly rare.
