DESCRIPTION: Mercator's double hemisphere map of the World.<br><br> This is the only obtainable world map by Gerard Mercator, who by many is considered to be the greatest geographer of the era. Both his 1538 and 1569 world maps are unobtainable rarities.<br><br> The 1569 twenty-one sheet wall map of the world, on which the revolutionary Mercator Projection was introduced is what the cartography is based on. The reduced version recast the map into a double-hemisphere format and did not follow the Mercator Projection.<br><br>
