• DESCRIPTION: An important early map of the Minnesota Territory, including all of current day North & South Dakota. Shows a massive Pembina and Blue Earth counties. Notes many forts, Indian tribes, lakes rivers etc. In the lower right is a note about the lands of the Dacota or Sioux Indians. This map appeared in the 1855 Cowperthwait edition of Mitchell’s "A New Universal Atlas containing maps of the various Empires, Kingdoms, States and Republics of the World".
