DESCRIPTION: "Since falling in love with printmaking approximately 15 years ago I’ve produced images using varying printmaking techniques and varying subject matter. But whether my images be of figures, flowers, birds, animals, or even letters of the alphabet, the two qualities that seem to run through all my work are simplicity of form coupled with a sense of movement. Pattern also holds great appeal to me, and though I am influenced by the simplicity of Japanese woodblock prints, I’m also a great admirer of the paintings of Edouard Vuillard.

The print in this show is a white-line woodcut, a technique which utilizes a template of wood upon which the outlines of the image are carved. Watercolor paint is then applied to the wood and transferred -- via rubbing -- to a piece of paper. I occasionally paste patterned paper, paint with additional watercolor, and draw with pen and ink on the images."
