DESCRIPTION: Signed and dated in pencil. The lithograph is based on a scene from the play "Harlem" by W. J. Rapp and Wallace Thurman, which opened at the Apollo Theatre on February 20, 1929. The drama began and ended with a rent party - a wild evening of music, dancing, and drinking held to raise money to pay the landlord. <BR> <BR> In April 1929 a preliminary drawing (location unknown) was reproduced in "Theatre Guild Magazine."
