DESCRIPTION: A first edition example. A handsome map of Boston that appeared in the first edition of "Mitchell's New General Atlas, Containing maps of the Various Countries of the World, Plans of Cities, Etc. . . ." Nicely embellished with a ribbon and flower border which includes roses, hibiscus and trumpet vine. This border is unique to the 1st edition. This edition still shows a largely unfilled Back Bay which was quickly being filled in at the time. Inset shows the surrounding suburbs of the city.
