DESCRIPTION: This map shows the northeastern corner of the Mason-Dixon line which settled the dispute between the Calvert (Lord Baltimore) and Penn families. Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon began in November,1763 and worked for almost four years to complete this 233 mile-long survey. This is one of the earliest engraved maps to show this famous "line." This map appeared in the November, 1769 edition of "The Gentleman's Magazine: or, Monthly Intelligencer…."
