  • DESCRIPTION: The 1819 re-engraving of Captain John Smith's iconic 1612 map.<br><br> It appeared in "The True Travels, Adventure and Observations of Captaine John Smith in Europe, Asia Africke, and America : Beginning about in the Yeere 1593 and Continued to This Present 1629." Printed at the Franklin Press, Richmond, 1819. Smiths map was the first published map of the Chesapeake Bay region. "One of the most important printed maps of America ever produced and certainly one of the greatest influence." Philip Burden. This re-engraving was copied from the 10th state of the map. Although a copy, this is an affordable, somewhat early, example of a great map.
