In fact, on this maps eastern edge is a portion of what was the Nebraska Territory. Mitchell's map of the Northwest offers a fascinating look at this early transitional territorial configurations of the Pacific Northwest. Washington Territory wraps itself around the newly established State of Oregon, established in 1859. Only a handful of counties east of the Cascades.<br><br> Shows early routes of exploration, towns, forts, rivers, lakes, mountains, mines, Indian lands, early counties etc. One of the most interesting regional maps of the period, in a configuration which would exist for only 2 years, 1860-62.<br><br> 1st edition, 1st state This atlas was published by Mitchell's son,and replaced the New Universal Atlas. This is the first edition, first state, with no page numbers outside the borders. Rare in this state.
