  • DESCRIPTION: Created shortly after the end of the war, Artillery Train reflects the immense logistical machinery that underpinned the conflict. The movement of artillery, ammunition, supplies, and personnel was essential to military operations on the Western Front, where rail transport served as the backbone of modern warfare. Rather than focusing on dramatic combat, Eby often directed his attention to the labor, organization, and industrial scale of war, finding powerful subjects in the equipment and infrastructure that sustained armies in the field.
