  • DESCRIPTION: Ben Shahn (1898-1969) created this 1968 lithograph entitled “OWL No. 1” for a channel 13 fundraising event. The edition of 250 was printed at the Atelier Mourlot Ltd. of New York. The paper size is 26.75 x 20.25 inches. Signed in Conté Crayon under the artist’s orange-red chop. Item number 16170 at the Old Print Shop website. <br><br> “With a minimum use of lines, Shahn captured in this print the principal characteristics of a horned owl: the widely opened eyes, the hooked beak, the powerful yet softly rounded body. When examined, the squiggles filling in the plumage turn into ‘Channel 13.’”
