In the second state lines are added and extended to buildings in foreground. Considerable linework added to buildings and street, creating greater contrast overall. Third state: no additional linework detected. Much more subtle than 2nd st.- not so contrasty. Fourth state: linework added to sky and foreground-building facades on lower rt., building and roof details added lower left and left margin. There seems to be a large printing of the fourth state, unmarked as such, and then a "fifth" and final state with details added to church roof, roof tops and building facades extended almost to edge of plate lower quarter of print and left margin.

Signed in pencil. Inscribed "First state." 20th Century Subjects , New York City , Manhattan - Midtown
