Shooting the apple on his sons head; Replying to Gessler (Tell had hid a arrow and was going to kill Gessler if he had accidentally hit his son); Escaping from the tyrant; and Death of Gessler.<br><br> Each print has a subtitle describing the scene. <br><br> William Tell was a folk hero of Switzerland. According to the legend, Tell was an expert marksman with the crossbow who assassinated Albrecht Gessler, a tyrannical leader of the Austrian dukes of the House of Habsburg. Tell's defiance encouraged the population to open rebellion and a pact against the foreign rulers with neighboring Schwyz and Unterwalden, marking the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy. <br><br>

  • ADDITIONAL INFO: This set of four was at one time bound into a salesman sample book. Save for the light foxing, the set is in unusually nice condition with bright original hand coloring.
