DESCRIPTION: Ortelius is the best known for producing the atlas from which this map comes, "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, or “Atlas of the Whole World". The atlas was immensely popular and was produced for over forty years. This particular impression is from a 1612 Italian text edition. On the back of the map is a description of the region.
