• DESCRIPTION: This handsome chart of ancient Greece is a wonderful example of Chatelain’s elegant maps. Included in the 1721 edition of Atlas Historique, published by Chatelain in Amsterdam, this large sheet is the fifteenth map in volume one. This detailed plate includes a small map of Greece surrounded by a lengthy text detailing the history of the Greek empire. Five small insets at the bottom of the sheet depict views of ancient Athens, Thebes, Corinth, Megare and Mount Cynthus. This highly detailed account of Greek history is a wonderful example of Chatelain’s meticulous work.
