DESCRIPTION: An unusual and finely engraved allegorical print. The image depicts five figures, sitting on and around an obelisk, to which a map of South America hangs. A figure sitting on top of the obelisk depicts a native holding a cornucopia. The four other figures represent the different European powers that held control at the time. This print likely appeared as a preface plate in one of Tirion’s published works. Drawn and engraved by J. C. Philips. A handsome piece.
