A scarce smaller sized wall map of the United States shown in the decade before the Civil War. The west shows interesting early state and territory configurations. It has a large Nebraska Territory, a tall double high Indian Territory (current day Oklahoma). Utah and New Mexico are shown as large oversized east-west oriented territories. Also noted are the various rail and steam ship routes from the East Coast to California. Includes a chart showing 1850 population of the United States by state. Inset maps include a small double-hemisphere world map and a map of the West Indies. Steam and clipper ship vignettes add a decorative element to the map. The map is surrounded by a 1 1/2" repetitive scrollwork pattern. Drawn and Engraved by J. M. Atwood. Maps
