DESCRIPTION: A beautiful map depicting Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, and part of Brazil from Blaeu's "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, Sive Atlas Novis." The map shows the Amazon River into the interior of the continent and locates the mythical city of El Dorado or Manoa, aka, the fabled city of gold. The map is embellished with title and scale cartouches, a large compass rose, a sea monster and sailing ships.
