  • DESCRIPTION: Engraved map with original outline color. By Le Sr. d’Anville; revised by Santini. Published by Remondini, Venice, 1784. A good overall map of the American South at the end of the Revolution. It extends from New Jersey and Delaware Bay south to Cape Canaveral on the Florida coast and west beyond the Mississippi River to Cabo del Norte on the Texas coast. To the north is "Adayes, Presidio Espagnol de la. Prov. De Tecas." Reflecting its French origin, the map places the boundary between Louisiana and Florida east of Mobile. Georgia appears, but no boundaries are drawn. D'Anville shows many rivers, locates Indian tracks and towns, and marks such river settlements as St. Genevieve and Caskaskia.
