DESCRIPTION: From copyright photographs by E.S. Curtis. Photogravure Soffolk Eng. Co. Cambridge, Mass. <br><br> Edward Sheriff Curtis published "The North American Indian" between 1907 and 1930. The twenty-volume series recorded the various Native American cultures spread across the country, although it also contained Euro-American biases which were typical of the time. Each of the descriptive volume were accompanied by a portfolio of large photogravure plates.<br><br> The Yaudanchi Indians were part of the Yokuts tribe in central California. They lived around the Tule River and giant sequoia forests. The Yaudanchi were unfortunately wiped out by disease and the westward expansion of the United States.
