A "camera lucida" is an optical instrument designed to create an exact image of an external object or landscape on a place surface so that an outline can be traced from it. The result is that Hall's scrarce etchings offer an extermely accurate glimpse of towns just developing, native dress and landscape features. Accompanied by a page of descriptive text.
