English illustrator and lithographer who worked for the English ornithologist John Gould. He began working for Gould in 1851 making the patterns for the lithographic stones for Gould’s monumental work, A Monograph of the Trochilidae, or Family of Hummingbirds. Thus started an association that was to last thirty years. By 1870 Hart had become Gould's chief artist and lithographer.
