Jakob F. Schreiber

1809-1867

Jakob Ferdinand Schreiber arrived in Esslingen in 1831 with a good education and 44 lithographic stone plates. That same year, he married Maria Karoline König, a wealthy bourgeois daughter, and founded a lithographic institute.

Initially, they printed art prints, for example, with partial views of Esslingen and its surroundings. Soon, however, they began producing illustration sheets with religious motifs (so-called "Holgen ") and prints with scientific content for children, which brought great success to the fledgling publishing house.
