  • DESCRIPTION: Two different types of monkeys are depicted on this well detailed natural history print from "Naturhistorische Abbildungen der Saeugethiere," (Natural History of Mammals). Heinrich Rudolf Schinz (1777-1861) a Swiss physician, Professor of Natural History and member of the Natural History Society of Zurich produced a series of popular illustrated books on natural history between 1824 and 1852. Carl Joseph Brodtmann (1787-1862) was one of the most accomplished Swiss lithographers of the day. This print typifies the rich detail, accuracy and beautiful composition of his style.
