• DESCRIPTION: The Mandanes lived along the upper Missouri River (now North Dakota). From General Georges Collot's, "Voyages dans l'Amerique Septentrionale", a report on his expedition through the interior of North America. Collot traveled along the waterways leading from the Great Lakes to the mouth of the Mississippi, mapping and making drawings of the sites he passed. Although Collot's well-detailed account and plates were printed in 1805, they were not issued until two decades later, due to political considerations. The journal was published in 1826, in both French and English editions. Engraved by Antoine Francoiis Tardieu.
