  • DESCRIPTION: Copper engraving of himself by Willem Hondius (1597-1652). After famed painter Antony Van Dyck (1599-1641), often called "the Flemish Raphael." Van Dyck was an apprentice to and colleague of Peter Paul Rubens. Later he also worked in London at the English court. Closely associated with Van Dyck, Hondius was a skilled Dutch engraver and artist from The Hague who became painter to Ladislav IV of Poland. His father was the celebrated cartographer and engraver Hendrick Hondius.
