  • DESCRIPTION: This engraving by James Caldwall, after a painting by W. Hamilton, portrays Admiral Sir Roger Curtis (1746-1816), a distinguished officer in the British Royal Navy and a Knight of the Order of the Bath. Curtis served during the American and French Revolutionary Wars, earning both praise and criticism. His involvement in the controversial court-martial proceedings of Anthony Molloy and James Gabier tarnished his reputation. As a result, when the Napoleonic Wars commenced, Curtis was assigned minor duties and did not return to active battle.
