  • DESCRIPTION: This chine-colle lithograph depicts Sir Thomas Herbert (1793-1861), a British naval officer whose distinguished service spanned several major wars of the early 19th century. Herbert served on HMS Euryalus during the War of 1812, participating in the raids on Washington, D.C., and Alexandria on the Potomac. His career also included action in the Napoleonic Wars and the First Anglo-Chinese War, where he further demonstrated his tactical skill and leadership.
