• DESCRIPTION: Peint par L. M. Vanloo 1768. Grave par L.J. Cathelin 1770. Claude Joseph Vernet (1714-1789) was a French painter who enjoyed doing landscapes and seascapes. He spent twenty years living in Rome, part of which he used to study. He was called back to France by the king in 1753 to paint French seaports.
