DESCRIPTION: Plate LXXXV from Albertus Seba’s Locupletissimi Rerum Naturalium Thesauri, published in Amsterdam during the mid-18th century. The plate shows a "Serpent du Bresil" (Brazilian Snake) along with several lizard species, including the "Lezard d'Amerique." Seba, an apothecary and collector, sourced these specimens via the Dutch East India Company to fill his renowned Cabinet of Curiosities.<br><br> The publication was a massive undertaking spanning four volumes released between 1734 and 1765. It featured contributions from leading scientists such as H. Boerhaave and Peter Artedi, ensuring that exotic species from the East and West Indies, Brazil, and Greenland were documented with precision. The work remains one of the most ambitious natural history projects of the Dutch Golden Age.
