  • DESCRIPTION: Text under image lower left 'F. Cotes pinct Londini, 1765' and lower right 'R. Brookshaw fecit, Paris 1773.' The sitter Samuel Foote (1720-1777) was a British dramatist, actor and theatre manager who had among other talents a gift for mimicry. British born Francis Cotes was both painter and draughtsman (1726 - 1770). Richard Brookshaw Mezzotinter and draughtsman, was active in London and Paris circa 1773. Brookshaw and the publisher Haines worked together in Paris until 1775.
