  • DESCRIPTION: Drawn under the direction of a witness of the action by W. G. No publisher or artist identified beyond “W. G.” Title continues “after a sanguinary conflict of 1 hour & 55 minutes, is with respect dedicated to them & the sons of freedom by an admirer of American valour [sic] & patriotism.” <BR> The print depicts the Constitution raking the Java, which has lost all but its lower mainmast and within minutes of surrender. Note the Java’s colors flying from the stump of her mizzenmast.

  • CONDITION: Fair condition and color. Minor soiling, few mended cracks in sky, trimmed to or just inside plate mark all around, and lined. Ownership inscription on verso.
