Under the command of Master Commandant Johnston Blakely, the Wasp engaged the Reindeer in a ferocious exchange of broadsides, resulting in substantial damage and heavy casualties on both sides. The Wasp's superior firepower ultimately gave her the upper hand. Following the exchange, the crew of the Wasp boarded the Reindeer, overpowering the remaining British sailors.<br><br> With the Reindeer too severely damaged to be salvaged, the victorious crew of the Wasp made the difficult decision to set the British ship on fire. This wood engraving captures the dramatic moment as the Reindeer is engulfed in flames, serving as a stark reminder of the intense battle that led to her destruction.
