  • DESCRIPTION: Painted by W. J. Huggins. Engraved by T. Southerland. Title continues "Whales are caught, also the mode of cutting them into the ship, & Boiling the Oil upon Deck." Two references above title "The Head of a large Whale in the Agonies of Death" and "A Boat destroy'd by a Wounded Whale."<br><br>This is a fine period impression of the print.<br><br>The original printing plate still exist and prints pulled from it many time over the past 75 plus years. With the new prints one can see the plate is worn out with most detail lost. the newer impressions this has been added by coloring. Early impressions are very rare and late impressions very common.<br><br>

  • ADDITIONAL INFO: A fine, original early impression of the print. Provenance of this impression is Zachary T. Hollingsworth upon his death in 1925 bequeathed it to his son Valentine, who upon his death in 1942, bequeathed it to his son Mark Hollingsworth. This print was acquired from the wife of Mark Hollingsworth.
