  • DESCRIPTION: Painted by Frederick Tayler. Engraved by Frederick Bromley.<br><br> Three sportsmen, likely in the Scottish Highlands, two wearing kilts and the other two a plaid, crouch behind the brow of a hill while one man takes a shot at unidentified prey, likely a stag, with his rifle. A pair of Scottish Deerhounds are being held back by the second man.<br><br> (John) Frederick Tayler (1806-1889) was a 19th-century English engraver, painter and watercolor landscape artist. He was a president of the Royal Watercolour Society from 1858-1871. Tayler's work can be divided into three groups: sporting scenes, pastoral scenes, mostly Scottish; and historical illustrations.<br><br> Frederick Bromley (fl.1832-1870) English born engraver. Both his father and grandfather were engravers as well. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Suffolk Street Gallery. Many of his works are at the National Portrait Gallery in London.<br>
