  • DESCRIPTION: A handsome image of this Long Island Sound steamship. Originally built for the New Haven and Providence Line. She later was part of the New England Steam Ship Company's fleet.<br><vr> Fred Pansing (1844-1912) emigrated to the United States from Germany in 1865. Pansing had a love of the sea and enjoyed drawing marine vessels. He supplied images for the American Lithographic Company, Knapp & Co. and others. With his technical understanding and artistic skill, he was able to create portraits of steamships, sailing ships, tugs, and paddle wheelers which were widely reproduced as advertising chromolithographs for the shipping firms.
