• DESCRIPTION: From Hayes' "Portraits of Rare and Curous Birds...from Species in the Menagerie of Child the Banker, at Osterley Park, near London". Often cited as "The Birds of Osterely Park," this work contains 101 bird depictions, including many tropical and American species. They are almost totally water colors, guided only by a sketchy etched outline. Hayes and his childrren did the work themselves over a five year period, occasionally signing individually finished works in ink. In "Nature into Art," Buchanan praises the Hays as a "talented, artistic family" and rates their art as "very fine."
