  • DESCRIPTION: Drawn and engraved by Edward Hawke Locker from a sketch made on their Aerial Voyage July 5, 1802. The ribbon above the figure's head reads, "Audax Aereos Gaudet Tentarevolatus." Andre-Jacques Garnerin (1769-1823) is the inventor of the frameless parachute and is regarded as the first parachutist in history, making his first decent in 1797 in Parc Monceau, Paris.
