DESCRIPTION: Reverend Joseph Hutton, L.L.D. (1790–1860) was born at Summer Hill, Dublin, and earned his M.A. at Trinity College before continuing his theological studies at Manchester College, York, a noted Unitarian seminary. He began his ministry in 1813 at the High Pavement Chapel in Nottingham, later serving a congregation in Walthamstow, and from 1818 to 1834 led Mill Hill Chapel in Leeds, where he also ran a private day school offering instruction in classics, French, mathematics, and composition. Among his pupils was Frederick Swanwick, who became a pioneering railway engineer.
