Described as "one of the outstanding American silhouettists" in "America on Stone," Brown wandered the country executing full-length silhouette portraits of major public figures. He placed each into a landscape or interior background related to the individual. <br><br> Henry A. Wise was a U.S. politician and lawyer. He was the governor of Virginia when Harpers Ferry was raided by John Brown and served as a brigadier general during the American Civil War.
