DESCRIPTION: Dessine par C. Benazeck. Grave par Jazet. This engraving captures the final moments King Louis XVI had with his family before facing execution on January 21, 1793. His people had placed him on trial and found him guilty of treason. His wife, Marie Antoinette, would meet the same fate in October and their son, George XVII, would perish in prison at the age of 10. The only survivor of the family was the daughter, Marie Therese, who would remain in prison until December of 1795 and spent most of her remaining life in exile. A priest on the left offers his final blessing to the king.
