This editorial cartoon appears to celebrate America's Independence and the forging of new relations with Great Britain. The British lion has laid down his trident to kisses the hand of Columbia, who is the female personification of America. In Columbia's other hand is a rod labeled "Victory" with the hat of "4th of July" rests on top of it. Behind them, Parliament has risen the American flag alongside of their own. 18th-19th Century Subjects , Holidays , Miscellaneous
