  • DESCRIPTION: Mr. Cocking was an amateur scientist bent of improving Andre-Jacques Garnerin’s 1802 parachute design. The famous Nassau Balloon, piloted by the equally famous Charles Green, assisted him into the air on July 24, 1837. The parachute was a complete failure and within moments of being released Mr. Cocking plummeted to his death. The incident left an infamous mark in history.
