  • DESCRIPTION: Drawn at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, April 9–10, 1865, by Edgar Klemroth of the 6th Pennsylvania Cavalry. This lithograph, based on Klemroth’s drawing, depicts Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee in conversation shortly before Lee’s formal surrender. Shown in the title margin is an oval inset of the residence of Wilmer McLean, where the articles of surrender were signed. Issued as a self-published print. In the lower right is a manuscript note that reads: “To Brot. Lt. Col. E. L. Stratton, 12th N.J. Vols. With Compliments of John Cameron, A.A. Genl. Dept. of the Potomac, G.A.R.”
