• DESCRIPTION: In 1901, Reynolds Beal joined the New York Nautical School (now SUNY Maritime College), traveling to Europe aboard the St. Mary's. They dropped anchor in the port of Funchal, Portugal in August 1901. During the early 1890s, Beal studied with William Merritt Chase. This work is a great example of the artist's introduction to Impressionism and Tonalism.
